Sir James Ware (1594-1666), Irish historian, was born in Dublin on 26 November 1594, and attended Trinity College, Dublin (M.A., 1616). He was auditor-general of Ireland from 1632 to around 1649, and served as the member of parliament for Dublin University, 1634-1637 and 1661. He was banished from Dublin by General Michael Jones, the parliamentary governor, in 1649, and lived in London from 1651 to 1660. He returned to Dublin in 1660, and was reinstated as auditor-general. Sir James Ware, Irish antiquarian and historian, was the eldest son of Sir James Ware and his wife, Mary Briden. Born on November 26, 1594 in Dublin, Ware entered Trinity College in 1610 and graduated M.A. in 1616. Encouraged by Archbishop James Ussher to pursue his antiquarian and scholarly interests, Ware collected manuscripts and charters and became acquainted with some Irish men of letters, such as Duald MacFirbis.
